West Sayville Family Dentist Dr. Sigismondi

Richard M. Sigismondi, DMD, P.C.

Dr. Sigismondi, a Long Island native, has had a lifelong passion for dentistry. He started his journey by completing his undergraduate work at Stony Brook University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. This solid foundation in the sciences prepared him well for the next step in his education, as he went on to graduate from the Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1979.

His first job shaped his early years in the field at the age of 15, working in his father’s dental laboratory, which sparked his interest in occlusion and its effects on the teeth, muscles, and joints. This early exposure set the stage for his further studies in occlusion at the prestigious Dawson Academy and the Piper Education and Research Center. Through these experiences, Dr. Sigismondi achieved the status of Dawson Academy Scholar and developed an intricate understanding of the relationship between teeth and the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

In addition to his scholarly achievements, Dr. Sigismondi is a well-rounded implant practitioner, having completed his Fellowship in Implant Restoration at the Misch Resnik International Implant Institute. He’s a firm advocate of using surgical guides in implant placement, which ensures the accuracy and optimal outcomes of the procedure in terms of aesthetics, function, and comfort.

Dr. Sigismondi shares his expertise and passion for dentistry with future generations of dental professionals, serving as a clinical professor at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine. He trains residents to treat the mouth as a whole, considering all the intricate relationships within the oral cavity. In this role, he continues to shape the future of the dental field and pass on the knowledge he has gained over his long and successful career.
